30 Years of EMAS – A Reason to Celebrate and to Act!

Together for measurable environmental protection: Burda Druck passes the 2026 EMAS consolidation audit in Offenburg

Continuous improvement in environmental management is not an end in itself but a measurable process. On 11 and 12 May 2026, the Burda Druck site in Offenburg successfully completed the demanding EMAS consolidation audit. During this two-day on-site inspection, independent, state-accredited environmental verifiers confirmed that our environmental management system fully meets the strict European requirements of the EMAS Regulation (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). 30 years of systematic environmental performance. This successful audit marks a special milestone: since its initial certification in 1996 – for 30 years now – Burda Druck has participated continuously and without interruption, on a voluntary basis, in the demanding EMAS scheme. The fact that this environmental performance has been continuously improved over three decades is based on close cooperation across all areas of the company. From precise data management in prepress planning and the daily work at the gravure presses through to logistics, environmental awareness is firmly anchored in everyday work.

The successful EMAS recertification is the result of a united team effort by all employees at the site. Resource efficiency in validated cycles. This year’s audit focused on the verifiable data of our operational processes, which we disclose transparently each year in our publicly accessible and independently validated environmental statement:

• Certified paper procurement: To ensure responsible forestry, the paper we purchase demonstrably comes 100 % from sustainably managed European forests and is fully certified to FSC® (FSC-C011913) or PEFC (PEFC/04-31-1317).
• Solvent recovery in a closed loop: By using a modern, in-house recycling plant, we recover almost the entire amount of toluene used in the gravure printing process and return it to the production cycle.
